LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Copper Moon Management acknowledges that the land on which we reside is the ancestral and unceded territory of the Yuhaviatam/ Maarenga’yam people, commonly referred to by their Spanish name “Serrano”, and the Cahuilla people. We also acknowledge that Joshua Tree National Park and the surrounding area is still home to many different indigenous tribes including the Serrano, Chemehuevi, Mojave Cahuilla and Mojave.

As a land-based business, we acknowledge that this land was wrongfully and forcefully taken from Indigenous Peoples by settler societies and that we benefit from the ongoing settler colonialism. We recognize the strength and wisdom of the Indigenous Peoples who are of this land and who have preceded us in preserving and protecting its natural and cultural resources.

It is important to recognize the longstanding history and relationship between this land, the people who have inhabited it, and to seek an understanding of our place within that history. When visiting Joshua Tree, we encourage all of our guests to learn about, share and honor—in culturally appropriate ways—the storied history of the hi-desert and its indigenous peoples. Our hope is that everyone—residents of the high-desert and visitors alike—holds themselves accountable to the ongoing preservation of this land.
